Very nice hike from Russell Hill Rd in Ashburnham south to Route 2 in Westminster. Somewhat longer than our usual and very hot and humid but worth it. There's a downed tree just north of the shelter but hikers have been going around it easily. It's also easy to miss the right turn marker on the cart path after you take a left off of Battles Rd. The marker is on the left side and was somewhat obscured by branches so we missed it and came to a clearing by the Old Mill Restaurant before back tracking.



We saw several tiny frogs and toads about the size of a fingertip and some nice wildflowers. The shelter area at Muddy Pond is gorgeous where we came across 7 other hikers and shared food and stories. It was great. South of the shelter there is a beautiful farm with cows (and lots of cow patties) where some kids who'd been hiking raced thru the fields on a 4-wheeler to bring us cookies.
