Does anyone know if permission is needed to camp along the trail due to some areas being in state forests? I have read there are scattered shelters also along the way, are they usable still. Most of what i have read is from multiple years ago. Thanks

Just finished the trail last Sunday and all the shelters appear to be in good shape.
