2.3 miles of trail for 4.6 total hike
We parked at the lot on Route 122 in Rutland and hiked south. It was a sunny, calm day about 20 degrees at the start and rose to a scorching 28 degrees by the time we finished. There was no snow or ice at all in the woods except for on the trail itself. It was mostly solid ice for long stretches and we had to walk carefully along the edge and on rocks to avoid falling. That slowed us down quite a bit but it was still a good hike. Well marked and only 1 house along the trail at the point where it crosses paved Crawford Rd. Some up and down but nothing too steep. There is a nice shelter with a mouse repellent hanger in it and a big stone fire pit in front of it. The trail passes close by the south end of Long Pond. Very pretty and quiet. There was a flock of noisy birds and a guy with his dog ice fishing. We continued to the dirt East Hill Road and then back to the car. Nice hike. Only disappointment were beer cans thrown in woods near the pond.
