I solo hiked another segment of the MST on my trek northward on Sunday 26 July 2015. The rain held back during my hike, and the overcast sky helped keep some of the heat down. I seen many bright orange salamanders on the trail throughout my hike and I flushed a bunch of pheasant out of their roosting area. I also came across the largest mushroom I've ever seen. I thought the "just listen" MST artwork was a neat addition to the trail and I appreciated the effort to build and install. It struck me as interesting that the wind-chime was added to the part of the trail where the noise of Rt 122 was getting louder on my northward journey. I would rather listen to the wind chime than the auto's. I was lucky as the animals did not eat all of the red and black raspberries scattered here and there around blood swamp, so I was able to savor about a tasty dozen. For me personally, this was my longest hike. 7.8 miles one-way to the Dam, but well, the hike back was exhilarating. Ten to twelve miles is a good hike for my fitness and ability. The 15.6 round trip was a known challenge for me and I do love a challenge. My coworkers were wondering why I seemed stiff and was walking funny on Monday. My only reply was that I had a great weekend. Attachments:
