Davis St Rutland south to Barre Falls Dam
8-30-17
4.7 mi.
This is a really nice, relatively non-strenuous hike that gives a true sense of being away from it all out in the woods. No houses or traffic noise and a trail not well travelled, but easily followed, it had a variety of forest scenery and we saw our first actual wildlife, a deer running by a few feet from us. We also heard the loud flapping of a large bird very close by and saw 2 large white birds cawing loudly fly over the dam. There were also some pretty, vivid red flowers in the river.
Just into the woods off Intervale Rd. there is a large tree down over the trail that we ducked under.
We did not see anyone until we got to the frisbee golf area at Barre Dam. At the end of Tracy Rd there were no markers so we continued on the road up the hill until we realized the mistake and headed back down to cross the field up past the dam. It's a beautiful area and the park is very nice for a picnic with tables and charcoal grills.
A few mosquitos, but bugs are starting to moderate as it gets cooler.
